NEW WINTER DEALS

YOU CAN STAY AT PIHA FOR A WEEK OR MORE .....

FOR $298 PER WEEK, (Monday - Friday) all inclusive. Some women will be able to help with our costs by offering to pay the GST of $37.00 per week as well as the board, but we wanted to make the 'Artists Winter' possible for all women.

This idea began because I decided that when I was 70 I'd want to do some 'writing'! Then I thought, it would be good to be surrounded by other people who wanted to write, or paint, or compose songs, or re-create their lives or create a healthy body for themselves, or even just have a long holiday! I thought they could join me for my 70th year! The next thought I had was, "why not begin it NOW during the winter months of May - October 2009? So we are!

We still take guests of course at $125.00 per 24 hours. They will still enjoy the wonderf
ul service of breakfast being brought to their rooms; lunch will be laid on in one of the dining areas and then dinner will be in front of the fire. The difference for the 'boarders' will be that they help themselves to breakfast and lunch that the chef prepares and then we all join in for the evening meal by the fire.

"Te Wahi Ora is a place for women and therefore we want to make sure that women CAN come, so please feel free to negotiate costs", WE MEAN IT! So begin planning your winter retreat dates NOW.

In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.

Albert Camus

What a wonderful summer it has been. Wonderful guests; much walking, swimming, eating, reading, talking and sleeping! Winter is just as good! The season brings it’s own charms with, wrapping up warmly, cosy fires, time be still, invigorating and dramatic weather, hot milky drinks or mulled wine!

And when the urge to move strikes, you'll be encouraged to enjoy the shelter of bush walks when it is windy or the wide open spaces of the beach walks in the rain or in safe winter sunshine!

Today one of our guests had enjoyed a brisk walk along the beach and returned with hair flying and skin glowing - she had been energized by a massage just hours before and now she sank into a comfortable easy chair and devoured two big bowls of hot, meaty vegetable soup! Two hours later she was packed and ready to return to her family of boys for another action packed term of being mother!

One solo mother who is a student, has been saving $10 out of her housekeeping money towards a much needed three day holiday for herself.

We had a woman from New York come for two weeks and she talks, not only of returning but of being "quite changed by the experience".

Did I ever tell you about one guest who, over the years, came 107 times? She had a busy schedule; so at the beginning of each year she put the monthly dates of her visits into her diary and not only did it help support her life but she became a wealth of wisdom and encouragement to Te Wahi Ora. We miss her now that she is retired.

As I've said before, we are planning to be here for women for the long haul. So we must find a way of being financially sound. We now need staff which is a new experience for us and means that Te Wahi Ora has more financial demands on it. But it also means that I'm more relaxed and the food and services are superb!

More and more another group of women are beginning to find their way to Te Wahi Ora and they are .... older women. (i.e. Anyone my age and over!)

Here are two such women!

For when Joan Erikson (wife of the famous Erik Erikson who, with Joan's assistance, put forward the 8 stages of human development) was in her 90's and Erik was dying, she decided to re-write the 8th stage and add a 9th stage! "We were young when we wrote it originally" she explains, "now I know more of the aging process. Time for a re-write!"

"You're an original, Joan" says a friend, in the book "A Walk on the Beach" by Joan Anderson (I've just ordered 3 copies!)

"Not really," she answers, "Deep within every life, no matter how dull or ineffectual, something eternal is happening."

Now that is what I want to explore this winter with any woman who is willing to come into sacred space created over many years by many women, space for us to discover the "something eternal" that is happening!

Joan Erikson continues "the negative pulls of old age, are greater and therefore an aging person has to strive that much harder to gain strength. I didn't want to admit to myself, how difficult this last stage was - more difficult than any of the others."

We've got some exploring to do together, don't you think? And it looks as though this 9th stage deserves more time and energy than we have been led to believe!

YOU book in: pihabevholt@clear.net.nz ($125 all up for each 24 hours; $298 per week or feel free to negotiate a price!) Phone 09 812 8775

I'll get the log fire going and the hot soup;

Let's discern that "something eternal" that is happening in our lives and give this 9th stage our best shot!
